Best Things to Buy This Diwali Season (From My Own Experience)
Every Diwali, we shop for new clothes, decorations, and sometimes even appliances. But over the years, I’ve realised that the best investments are the ones that quietly make our daily life healthier and easier. These aren’t flashy items — but they change how you cook, eat, move, and even breathe.
So here’s my list of Diwali buys that I use at home, tested over time, and backed by both personal experience and research. Think of it as my festive shopping guide for a healthier lifestyle.

Air Fryer or Steamer
I bought my first air fryer a few years ago, and it changed the way we cook snacks at home. You get the same crunch with 70–80% less oil. Research shows that high consumption of fried food increases risk of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. With an air fryer, you reduce unnecessary fat and calories without feeling deprived.
Oil Spray Bottle
This small tool cut my oil use by nearly 70%. Instead of pouring straight from the bottle, I can coat a pan or cutlets with just a spray. For anyone managing weight, it’s one of the simplest hacks.
Smaller Plates
Behavioural science shows smaller plates trick your brain into feeling satisfied with less food. When I switched from large thalis to smaller plates, I naturally ate less without feeling deprived. This works especially well during Diwali feasts.
Measuring Cups
I thought I was good at eyeballing portions, until I tried measuring cups. They keep your servings accurate. Choose steel or ceramic over plastic for durability and safety.
Steel or Glass Water Bottles
Plastic bottles can leech BPA and microplastics. I switched to steel and glass bottles, and it feels cleaner and safer. Hydration without toxins.
Steel or Ceramic Chopping Boards
Plastic chopping boards release microplastics into food. I now use steel boards at home. They make more sound but keep food cleaner. High-quality wood is good too but needs more maintenance and i find that this can be quite expensive. You can also look for glass chopping board but i find they make the most noise.
Egg Boiler
Six eggs boiled in under 7 minutes with 100 ml water, no gas wastage. It’s so easy my son makes his own breakfast with it.
Popcorn Maker
We love popcorn at home. Earlier I used lots of oil in a cooker. With a popcorn maker, you don’t need oil or butter, and it’s simple enough for kids to use.
Replace Old Plastic Containers
Don’t throw them — use them for non-food storage. For food, switch to glass or steel. Safer, cleaner, and lasts longer.
For Movement and Fitness
Walking Pad
I use mine while on Zoom calls or watching videos. At 3 km/hr, it lets me add steps without leaving the house. Perfect for busy schedules.
Standing Desk
If you sit for long hours, a sit-stand desk prevents back strain and slouching. I use one alongside my walking pad depending on the day.
Weighted Vest
Wearing one during slow walks instantly boosts calorie burn without stressing the knees. I use it often on my walking pad.
Foam Roller
Helps release tight fascia and muscles. I use it post workouts or even on rest days for recovery.
Mini Bands
These are travel-friendly and instantly make workouts harder. I use them in my programs for Level 2 home workouts.
Massage Gun
Ideal for sore muscles. It feels indulgent but makes recovery easier if you work out regularly.
Yoga Mat
A must-have. Whether it’s workouts, stretches, or even floor sitting, a yoga mat is essential.
For Everyday Wellness
Book: The Bullet Journal Method
This book changed how I organise my life. It’s about managing tasks without anxiety, not about pretty pages. Highly recommended.
Ice Bag
For headaches, sprains, or fevers. No mess, just add ice. I even carry one while travelling.
Laptop Setup: Keyboard & Raiser
A simple raiser and keyboard saved my neck and posture during long laptop hours. Small change, big difference.
Shower Filters
These remove insect eggs and scale from water, improving skin and hair health. I saw visible results within weeks.
Posture Corrector
If you slouch, this can retrain your back. I’ve used it under shirts during long desk days, and it really helps.
Steel/Glass Tiffin Boxes
Switching away from plastic tiffins reduces BPA and microplastic risk. They’re also more durable.
Mini Hot Water Bottle
A lifesaver for cramps or quick comfort in winter. Small, portable, and very effective.
Food Steamer
Perfect for vegetables when you want a light, oil-free meal. Quick and nutrient-friendly.
CO2 and Fire Alarm
Essential safety investment. With Diwali diyas and festive cooking, this is a must-have for your home.
