NAVRATRI SUKHA CHANA - Simrun Chopra

Ingredients

1 cup chana (raw) (to be washed and soaked overnight)
2 tbsp oil/ghee
¼ tsp asafoetida
1 tsp whole cumin
few slitted green chillies
few chopped green chillies
2 piece ginger julienne
¼ tsp turmeric
¼ tsp kashmiri chilli powder (for colour)
1-2 tsp of coriander powder
1 ½ tsp aamchur
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

Method

  1. Boil and cook the chana in a pressure cooker.
  2. Add salt to taste.
  3. Cook the chana in a pressure cooker for 15-20 minutes after the first whistle, on low flame.
  4. Remove from flame and keep aside.
  5. Let the cooker open naturally.
  6. In a pan add the oil/ ghee.
  7. Let the oil warm a little.
  8. Add the asafetida.
  9. Add the whole cumin.
  10. When the whole cumin changes colour or starts spluttering.
  11. Add the slitted green chillies and the chopped green chillies. Stir fry for a minute or so.
  12. Add the ginger julienne. Stir for few seconds.
  13. Add the turmeric,coriander and red chilli powder. Stir for few seconds.
  14. Now add the aamchur powder.
  15. Mix it in and stir for few seconds.
  16. Now add the boiled cooked chana.
  17. Even the water whatever there is.
  18. Mix it well with the masala.
  19. Cover and cook on low flame for few minutes.
  20. Then remove cover and cook on medium flame ,let the water dry up.
  21. Add the chopped coriander leaves. Mix it in and cook for a minute or so.
  22. It's done .
