Low Cal Hot Chocolate

Low Cal Hot Chocolate - Simrun Chopra

This SIMple hot chocolate tastes like hot melted chocolate in a cup.Try this low calorie version every time you crave chocolate and you'll thank me.

I prefer to use unsweetened cocoa powder as this helps control the amount of sugar you want to add.

You can use any sweetener of your choice. If you just keep boiling this down slowly you get a chocolate sauce. It's that simple.

If you want to make the sauce more indulgent, just add a tiny bit of butter at the end.

Hot Chocolate to Drink

  • 1 cup water measured
  • 1 heaped tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 lump of jaggery ( about the size of a dice)

Method

  • Add the cocoa to a pot and pour in the water slowly
  • While whisking or mixing continuously to remove lumps
  • Add in the jaggery and turn on the flame to high and bring the mixture to a boil
  • Once it starts bubbling, turn down the flame and let is slowly reduce to nearly half
  • Taste for consistency and sweetness. Add more jaggery if needed ( account of the calories) and see if you need to boil it down further to make it thicker.
  • Serve hot

Optional : You can also sprinkle a little Cinnamon powder at the end ( not cassia )

Note : you need to boil it down and if you keep boiling it down you can turn this into a chocolate sauce too. The low calories comes with the patience of boiling it down.

if you want to make it a more indulgent chocolate sauce just double the cocoa and at the end add a little butter.
