Bread Upma

  • 2 slices of whole wheat grain/mutligrain
  • 2tablespo onion, finely chopped
  • 2tables tomato, chopped
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • a pinch ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup bell peppers, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
  • 1teaspoon oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Method of Preparation:

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add cumin seeds followed by chopped onions. Saute until onions turn brown
  3. Add chopped tomatoes, green chili, and minced ginger. Cook until tomatoes are soft and mushy.
  4. Add chopped vegetables (bell peppers) and cook for a few minutes until they are slightly tender. now add salt . Mix well.
  5. Now add the bread pieces to the pan. Toss everything together until the bread is well coated with the spices and vegetables.
  6. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the bread pieces are slightly crispy.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
