Dal Chutney

  • 1/4 cup urad dal 
  • 1/4 cup chana dal
  • 1/4 cup toor dal 
  • 7-10 curry leaves 
  • 1/4 tsp oil 
  • 10-12 garlic pods ,
  • 1 "pc ginger cut 
  • 5-6 whole red chillies 
  • 1 1/2 tblsp soaked seedless tamarind 
  • 2 tbsp grated coconut 
  • 2-3 tbsp coriander leave /1 small sprig 
  • Salt to taste 
  • 1/2 cup water 

For the tarka
  • 1 tsp oil ,warm the oil 
  • 1/4 tsp of whole cumin seeds and whole mustard seeds, 
  • 3-4 curry patta leaves broken into bits 

  • Take the urad dal , chana dal, toor dal and the curry patta leaves ,dry roast in a kadhai till they start changing colour
  • Remove and keep aside
  • In the kadhai brush oil then add the garlic pods ,cut ginger and the whole red chillies
  • Roast for 30-40 seconds
  • Soak the tamarind and keep aside 
  • Next add the grated coconut to the kadhai
  • Roast for 30-40 seconds
  • Then add it to the roasted dal and let it cool
  • Add the sprig of coriander leaves , salt to taste and the tamarind to the roasted dal
  • Transfer all the ingredients to a grinder
  • And dry grind it
  • Loosen up the mixture in the grinder
  • Add 1/2 cup of water and grind to a smooth paste
  • Can put 1or 2 tbsp of water if required .
  • At this point do taste for salt ,chillies and slightly sour taste .Adjust according to personal choice
  • Transfer to a bowl
  • Take a small kadhai add the oil ,warm the oil a little ,then add the whole cumin seeds ,whole mustard seeds, and the curry patta leaves broken into bits ,stir fry for few seconds
  • When it starts getting fragrant transfer to the bowl with the dal chutney .
  • Done ✔️
