Quick super yummy recipe that you can have with roti and sabzi or just on its own.
Masala Dal Chicken
Ingredients
750 gms chicken
1 1/2 cups of dal (wash and soak for 1/2 an hr )
Water 4 1/2 cups
2 onions chopped
2 tomatoes chopped
1 tbsp pounded ginger garlic
Few whole green chillies
1 tbsp of chopped coriander leaves
3 bay leaf
1/2 tsp whole cummin
2 black cardamom
2 pc cinnamon stick of 1" each
5-6 cloves
4 whole red chillies
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
1/2 tsp kashmiri red chilli
Red chilli powder to taste
1/2 tsp garam masal powder
3 tbsp oil (mustard /refined)
Method
Take a kadhai
Add the oil ,warm it a little
Add the bay leaves
Add the whole cummin,cardamom,cinnamon, cloves and whole red chillies
When the cummin starts spluttering and the red chilli starts changing colour
Add the chopped onions
Stir fry till it becomes beige brown
Add the pounded ginger garlic
Saute till the masala becomes brown
Add the chopped tomatoes
Saute till tomatoes become soft
Add the turmeric, red chilli, kashmiri chilli powder and salt
Add 4-5 tbsp of water
Saute masala till it becomes a nice reddish brown and tomatoes become totally mushy
Add the chicken and saute till the water from the chicken dries up
The masala should be a nice reddish brown colour
Add the washed and soaked dal
Saute for 5-10 minutes
Add the water and mix everything in well
Add few whole green chillies
When the gravy starts to boil
Lower the flame and cover and cook till dal is cooked .
Stir in between
Check for salt
When dal is cooked let it cook on low flame for 5-7 minutes, till oil come on top .
Top with chopped coriander leaves
Done .
Serve with roti or rice .
Note :If you want to make in pressure cooker Add the whole thing to the pressure cooker ,add water cook on full flame ,just when you feel the cooker has caught ,switch off the flame .Have to switch off the flame much before the whistle ,or the dal will be totally overcooked .
