MOONG DAL CHILLA - Simrun Chopra


  • 250-300 gms moong dal
  • 1 ½ tbsp ginger grated
  • few green chillies
  • ¼ tsp asafoetida
  • salt to taste
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • oil as per requirement


  1. Wash and soak dal overnight. Drain the water and put in a grinder.
  2. Add few green chillies according to taste. And add the 1 ½ tbsp of granted ginger.
  3. Grind the dal to a smooth paste.
  4. Can add 2-3 tbsp of water. When done remove and put in a bowl.
  5. Now add salt according to taste.
  6. Add ¼ tsp asafoetida. Mix well and beat the batter for few minutes .
  7. Heat a non stick tava ,add 1 tsp oil.
  8. When the oil gets hot put 3-4 tbsp batter with a ladle and make it like a dosa.
  9. Sprinkle on top,chopped onions,chopped tomato, chopped coriander leaves and
  10. chopped green chillies according to taste. Press the above into the batter.
  11. Cook on low to medium flame till the sides start leaving
  12. Flip it over and cook for few minutes. Done .
  13. Serve with coriander/mint/ garlic chutney .


  1. Can put thinly sliced spinach, grated beetroot, and grated carrots instead of the onions and tomatoes on top of the chila.
