Moonglet (Moong omelette)


  • 30g moong dal
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp rice flour
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 1 chilli (finely chopped)
  • ½ tsp ginger paste
  • 20g  onion (finely chopped)
  • 25g tomato (finely chopped)
  • 50g capsicum (finely chopped)
  • ¼ tsp eno fruit salt (optional)
  • pinch chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)
  • Salt according to the taste
  • 1tsp oil.



  1. Firstly, soak 1 cup moong dal for 30 minutes. you can increase the soaking time to up to 1 hour.
  2. drain off the water and blend to smooth paste.
  3. transfer the moong dal paste to a large mixing bowl.
  4. add  turmeric,  rice flour and salt.
  5. beat and mix well forming a nice thick batter.
  6. add  cumin, 1 chilli, ½ tsp ginger paste, onion,  tomato and capsicum mix it well making sure everything is well combined.
  7. Now heat a pan and spread oil.Once the pan is hot, add eno fruit salt,  water to the batter and mix gently.
  8. Once the batter turns frothy, pour onto the hot pan.
  9. sprinkle chilli powder and Chopped coriander.
  10. cover and simmer for 2 minutes or until the base is cooked well.
  11. now flip over and press gently.
  12. make a good slit in the centre simmer for a minute or until it is cooked completely.
  13. You can cut into the  pieces if needed
  14. Finally, enjoy moonglet with green chutney and curd.
