Nimbu Achari Dal
Ingredients
For the tarka
Method
- 1/2 cup raw moong dal
- 10 -12 pieces of french beans cut into 1"pieces
- 1 medium to small carrot cut into cubes
- 1 medium tomato cut into cubes
- 1 tbsp chopped ginger
- 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
- Few slitted green chillies
- 3/4 of a small lemon (soft one with yellow skin ) sliced with skin
- salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- water 1:3 (1 1/2 cups of water)
- 1/4-1/2 cup etc of water for the vegetables
For the tarka
- 1/2 tsp ghee/oil
- 2-3 whole red chillies
- 2-3 green chillies slitted 8-10 cloves of garlic
- 1/4 tsp whole cumin
- 1/4 tsp coriander seeds
- 1/4 lemon sliced
- 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
Method
- Take the raw dal and wash and soak for 1/2 n hour
- Then place the washed dal in the pressure cooker
- Add the cut carrot,french beans,tomato ,chopped coriander leaves ,chopped ginger and 3/4 of the sliced lemon
- To this add salt to taste , turmeric powder , chilli powder ,coriander powder and cumin powder
- Now add water for the dal and vegetables
- Close the lid of the cooker and place on the stove ,
- Cook till the start of a whistle on full flame .
- Then remove from stove and keep aside .
- Let it open naturally .
- When done open the lid
- Mix it in gently
- Lastly do the tarka
- Add ghee/oil in a kadhai
- When the oil/ghee is warm add the whole red chillies and green chillies
- Then add the cloves of garlic
- Stir fry for few seconds
- Then add the whole cumin and coriander seeds
- Stir fry for a minute or so then add the remaing lemon slices
- Now add the red chilli powder
- Stir fry for 20 -30 seconds
- Then add to the cooked dal and mix it in
- Done
- NB : if you have this dal with rice/roti then omit the carrots .
- Other vegetables that can be added few florets of cauliflower,1 capsicum cut in cubes and 1 cup of bottle gourd cut in cubes .
