Chilli Tofu - Chinese Style Low Calorie

Chilli Tofu - Chinese Style Low Calorie

This recipe has been adapted from my grandma's chilli chicken recipe. It is quick, low calorie and tastes awesome.

Have it with a fried rice or noodles or with plain rice or even as a sandwich stuffing.

Here are some recipes to pair it with

Sauteed Mushrooms and Tofu

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet fresh button mushrooms, approximately 200 g
  • 100 g tofu, cut into cubes
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 2 tbsp ginger, julienned
  • 7-8 green chillies, sliced
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp dark soy sauce
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped spring onions (optional)

Method:

  1. Wash the mushrooms and cut each into 4 vertical pieces. Set aside.
  2. In a wok or pan, add a few drops of oil, spreading it evenly, and gently heat the wok.
  3. Add the cut mushrooms and stir-fry over high heat, continuously stirring until the mushrooms turn slightly beige. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add the remaining oil to the wok and heat.
  5. Add the julienned ginger and stir-fry for a few seconds.
  6. Add the chopped garlic and stir-fry for 50-60 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Incorporate the sliced green chillies and stir-fry for 30-40 seconds.
  8. Add the tofu cubes and stir-fry for about a minute.
  9. Introduce the sliced onion and continue to stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until the onion softens.
  10. Stir in the sugar and soy sauce, ensuring they are evenly mixed.
  11. Season with a pinch of salt, considering the saltiness of the soy sauce.
  12. Optionally, garnish with chopped spring onions before serving.
